Things To Do

Humayun's Tomb

The tomb is one of Delhi's UNESCO World Heritage Sites, with the tomb of Humayun, the second Mughal emperor, at its heart. The best view can be accessed from the South Gate.

Qutub Complex

Dating from the 13th Century, this complex of buildings and gardens is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but tends to be less crowded than the other attractions in the city. Its most famous building is the Qutub Minar, a 72.5m high minaret that is beautifully carved all the way up.

Rajpath

The main parade that leads from the Presidential Palace to the iconic India Gate. Although it's a processional route, it's lined with lush gardens and is a great spot for a picnic in the evenings.

The Red Fort

One of Delhi's most important historical sites and its top tourist attraction, the bright red walls and turrets of the Red Fort are instantly recognizable. Completed in 1648, the fort attracts lovers of history and art to its cluster of buildings and beautifully kept green open spaces.

Shopping

New Delhi is a shopper's paradise, whether you want to haggle at the stalls of the huge Central Market in Lajpat Nagar, or browse the luxury stores of the DLF Emporio. Most of the larger malls are close to the central travel hubs such as New Delhi Railway station.

If you want to avoid the crowds then shop during the week, as Saturdays can be extra busy. Many malls and stores are closed on Sundays. New Delhi is wonderful for jewellery, and top of the list has to be a visit to the Silver Centre by Sangeeta Boochra, the top designer in the country.

Food And Drink

If there's one thing New Delhi is really famous for, it's the food. In this huge city you'll have every type of cuisine available 24/7, from authentic Indian dishes to fast food outlets, street food, and fusion. Vegetarians are well catered for, but don't expect to see too much in the way of seafood dishes, as the ocean is around a thousand kilometers away!

If you want to explore New Delhi's famous street food then join one of the many culinary tours that organize what they call “Raids” to various parts of the city to hunt down the best in Chaat, which is similar to tapas but with its own distinctive Indian twist.
